Do you even have an old Facebook you don’t get on much anymore but it still there? If the answer is yes, then there is a better than average chance that there are dozens if not hundreds of apps and websites that have unrestricted access to your personal information. When I first thought to check into my app permissions, I was floored to see how much information and data apps I haven’t used in years still had access to. Photos, birthdate, friends lists, statuses, the list goes on. Above is a screenshot of just some of the permissions I saw a random app I used when I was 16 had. Of course a lot of this happened in my early days of Facebook when I was far less careful about being safe online. We’ve all seen those little games and quizzes pop up on Facebook like “which Game of Thrones character are you” or “how would Morgan Freeman narrate your life”. Every one of these Apps and websites can be built by malicious hackers and used to gain access to profile information. And almost no one thinks to go in and revoke the permissions after they’re done playing. To revoke or limit your permissions, go to settings > Account settings > apps.
